OS X Mountain Lion has been released

Today Apple released OS X Mountain Lion to the App Store.  According to Apple’s web site, Mountain Lion has over 200 new features, including several enhancements to VoiceOver.  Perhaps the most notable of these is the ability for VoiceOver to access the status menus from third party applications.  This feature has been long sought after by VO users.  Some other features of the new Voiceover include:

  • the ability to more easily select text on the web
  • the ability to drag and drop with modifier keys
  • support for 14 new Braille Displays

While not specifically an accessibility feature, Mountain Lion now has the same voice dictation that is already available on the iPhone 4S and the new iPad.

Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App store, and costs $19.99.
