★ Kindle App for iOS Gains VoiceOver Accessibility

It’s been a long time in coming, but the Kindle app for iOS is finally accessible with VoiceOver.

From the release notes:

  • Accessibility features make it easier for blind and visually impaired customers to navigate their Kindle libraries, read & interact with books, and more. Enable VoiceOver in your device settings to begin.

We have not yet had a chance to test the accessibility, but this is an extremely welcome development, after years of waiting. Hopefully, this is a sign that Amazon will be more responsive in keeping their apps accessible going forward.

★ A New Host for Maccessibility

You may have noticed that our site has been experiencing significant outages over the past few days. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We believe that we are now beyond the worst of it. There still may be a few hiccups here and there, and please let us know if you find anything amiss.

Our previous web host had declined in reliability and customer service to a deplorable degree, and so Maccessibility and its sister sites are in the process of relocating to GreenGeeks. We have, so far, found their support to be superb. As an added bonus, GreenGeeks is an eco-friendly web hosting solution, which will reduce the environmental impact of our site. This is something we are very excited about.

Thanks for your patience through this transition. A new episode of the Maccessibility Round Table Podcast has been recorded, and we hope to be delivering it to you soon as well.

★ Draconis Entertainment Releases a New Mini Title for Mac OS X – SilverDollar

Draconis Entertainment has just announced the release of SilverDollar, a collection of three small audio games for Mac OS X, which revisits the SilverDollar Saloon, a staple of many of Draconis’s previous titles.

The app includes games to start a brawl, shoot flying dishes out of the air, and a simulated one-armed bandit.

SilverDollar is available in the Mac AppStore for $1.99 USD, and at a similar price in other countries.
