Readiris Pro Configuration and Setup

by Anne Robertson

Editor’s Note – This article is reprinted from ICanWorkThisThing.com.

This guide pertains to the Readiris Pro OCR Solution, available from IrisLink.com.

Readiris has many unlabelled fields; as a result it’s easier to use the menus to configure it. Press Return to check a menu item.

  1. Settings Menu:
    1. Document Type, in the sub-menu, choose Text.
    2. Page Deskewing, checked.
    3. Detect Page Orientation, checked.
    4. Despeckling, leave as is.
    5. Language, press Return and from the table select the language of the document you have scanned, then click OK.
    6. Font Type, leave on “Automatic”, unless you know that the scanned document was printed on a dot-matrix printer. In this case, check “Dot Matrix”.
    7. Character Pitch, leave on “Automatic”.
    8. Text Format, press Return to configure this:
      1. From the popup menu, choose RTF.
      2. Below this, there are three radio buttons. Select the first, “Create body text”.
      3. Navigate down to “Merge lines into paragraphs”, and check it.
      4. Use the Item Chooser to go to “Output”.
      5. Underneath this, clear the “Ask file name and location” checkbox.
      6. Underneath, click on the popup menu and select “Add Application”.
      7. A File Browser opens. You can use Command-Shift-A to go to the Applications folder, then navigate to the application you want (e.g. TextEdit) and press Return.
      8. Click on OK at the bottom right.
    9. Press Return on Save as Default… to preserve these settings for future use.
  2. Layout Menu:
    1. Page Analysis, checked.
    2. Do not Detect Zones on Borders, checked.

Well done! Readiris is now set up to interpret the document scanned and place it in a new TextEdit document.
