Editor’s Note – This article is reprinted from ICanWorkThisThing.com.
This guide pertains to the Readiris Pro OCR Solution, available from IrisLink.com.
Readiris has many unlabelled fields; as a result it’s easier to use the menus to configure it. Press Return to check a menu item.
- Settings Menu:
- Document Type, in the sub-menu, choose Text.
- Page Deskewing, checked.
- Detect Page Orientation, checked.
- Despeckling, leave as is.
- Language, press Return and from the table select the language of the document you have scanned, then click OK.
- Font Type, leave on “Automatic”, unless you know that the scanned document was printed on a dot-matrix printer. In this case, check “Dot Matrix”.
- Character Pitch, leave on “Automatic”.
- Text Format, press Return to configure this:
- From the popup menu, choose RTF.
- Below this, there are three radio buttons. Select the first, “Create body text”.
- Navigate down to “Merge lines into paragraphs”, and check it.
- Use the Item Chooser to go to “Output”.
- Underneath this, clear the “Ask file name and location” checkbox.
- Underneath, click on the popup menu and select “Add Application”.
- A File Browser opens. You can use Command-Shift-A to go to the Applications folder, then navigate to the application you want (e.g. TextEdit) and press Return.
- Click on OK at the bottom right.
- Press Return on Save as Default… to preserve these settings for future use.
- Layout Menu:
- Page Analysis, checked.
- Do not Detect Zones on Borders, checked.
Well done! Readiris is now set up to interpret the document scanned and place it in a new TextEdit document.
