Keep Track of Software Product Keys
— ♣So, it’s happened to you too, huh? You bought that amazing piece of software via download, (we all love instant gratification), got the email with your product key, (AKA registration key, unlock code, and others), and then zoomed off to plug it into your downloaded trial version. You worked happily for months…maybe even years…and then…
One sad day it happened. You upgraded your computer system…or maybe you had to reinstall your OS…and you couldn’t find that little piece of cyber parchment in your email client any more that had those precious, if utterly incomprehensible, groups of letters, numbers, andassorted punctuation marks.
Well, the answer is here, and its a great little freeware product from App4Mac. It’s called RapidoSerial and it’s a real life saver.
This utility, which works virtually flawlessly with VoiceOver out of the box, let’s you painlessly maintain a database of all those product keys you have accumulated for your various software packages. In the main window, click the Add button, or just hit Command-N, and you’re on your way. You can choose from the list of Applications stored on your Mac, and the program will fill in most of the fields for you, including the version number of the application being added, the web site of the manufacturer, and so forth. Paste in your applicable information, such as user name, registration key, or serial number, and you’re off. You can even attach documents to entries, which is great for keeping your receipts stored in here too. You can export the database to a tabular text format, useful with other applications or for backup purposes.
The only quirk with VoiceOver is that the "Notes…" area shows up after the "Documents" label, and before the table which displays the attached documents for each entry, thanks to some strange layout practices. Nearly all the buttons are labeled properly, and all but one of those which are not have help tags which VoiceOver reads perfectly.
RapidoSerial has been localized to several languages. You can read more about this fantastic utility by clicking here or download it here.
